To support his lifelong habit of writing and performing, Doug Deep has a colorful history of using unconventional, yet highly effective, means to stay musical.

He cut his teeth touring North America and Europe with a bunch of West Coast art rockers known as Wow, who built a rabid following in Vancouver. In between touring stints, he turned an old abandoned casino into Deep Space – a rehearsal room by day, and a notorious after-hours club by night. “You make friends for life when you serve them a beer at 5:30 in the morning!,” says Deep.

Later, he took a gig to tour with the ultimate rock n roll freak show, The Jim Rose Circus, often opening shows or wielding a chainsaw. “Talk about many experiences that inspired my songwriting for years to come, that’s for sure,” remembers Deep.

He next landed in Los Angeles two weeks before 9/11. Undeterred by the country’s turmoil, he set his sights on the L.A. music scene. Fortunately, he fell into the lucrative reality television biz to help further fund his musical aspirations, moonlighting as a composer and music editor/supervisor for several notable series – “Survivor,” “Average Joe,” “Renovate My Family.” Deep’s publishing company has also licensed several of his compositions for independent films. “I find the drama of the Hollywood film and TV industry great fodder for new song ideas,” says Deep. "I love songs of innuendo and unfinished business.”

Underbelly, Deep’s latest effort, chronicles his view of the darker side of the Hollywood music scene – the unsavory things people sometimes do to achieve a dream. From the soul-less disconnect of the “Girl On A Cell Phone” lifestyle, to the velvet rope madness of “The Palace,” Underbelly explores the search for truth and the meaning of love in modern day society’s decadence.

Doug Deep describes the band as urgent, eager to rock, with a nod to classic stylings. A driving pulse, layered guitars, visually evocative lyrics and slightly hypnotic melodies. Deep’s vocals cut through the wall of sound with a searing passion at just the right time.  

All in all, Doug Deep seduces the imagination while assaulting sensory perception. He and his band are raising the bar of innovative, guitar-driven rock.
